Minutes for February 15, 2007 POA BOD meeting
Presiding Susan Munson
Scott Woodward, Justin Rose, Mindi Rose, Cheryl Lady, Erin Ercanbrack, Ross Bradford and Megan Durrant present. Absent: Mike Gardner, Jordan Gardner and Cecil Loftin
Horse Expo: Mindi and Trish are in charge. Megan suggests doing a spotlight for each pony, something that will catch audience interest. Trish has taken care of an announcer for our time frame, but we need more people to ride--- if you are interested contact Trish Barney! There was a question of whether we want one stall for two days or two stalls for one day. Mindi is in charge of contacting the expo and taking care of it. We can get passes to the Expo for ten dollars for the three days for those people who are manning the booth. Again, if you are interested, please contact Trish Barney.
It was suggested to have a “For sale Board” as well as a DVD running on the booth. The question was brought up about having Bajio coupons on the table to pass out (there is a sponsor that would like to pass them out for his business) and it was deemed a good idea. He may be able to get us some goodies for the people manning the booth. We also have the opportunity to pass out Nutrena bags of feed, it was suggested to give out certificates for the feed for signing up to become a member. Jo Jo would be willing to write up the proposal for it to send to Nutrena so that we can use feed as awards and incentives through out the year. Mindi is getting pencils and a candy dish for the expo.
Some of the judges are for the Classic are Dr. Pat Evans, Keith Tripp, Denny Brown. Cecil is in charge of making sure that we have judges scheduled as we send in our show dates.
We are looking for a Youth Advisor: someone to get together and get the ideas from Youth and then send them on to the BOD. We would like to hear the Youth ideas. Please contact Megan Dawson if you are interested in this position. 801-376-7703. Thanks!
Also, we are looking for an historian who would take pictures and record what we did for our events. Pictures would be great so that we can send them into the POA newsletter every month! Imagine your child in the pages of the magazine. Again, if interested, please contact Megan Dawson.
The Membership directory is going to be really great! We have received ads from breeders from out of state such as Gene Carr and Ken Steele. So far we have raised $760 and we are looking for half page ads and business card ads for the nonhorsey businesses. Ross has been going to banks in Spanish Fork and Mindi will also look into some venues. The directory will cost approx 50 cents a piece. Right now we are planning on printing 300. And then we can print more if we want. We would like to thank Jo Jo as well as Nicole for all of their diligent work and to all those that have supported this new project!
Utah Breeders Futurity: get your nominations in!!!
George Bishop Futurity: we have been looking at the rules from the past, and we need some new rules written up. We have voted to keep it the same as last year-yearling, two and three and then four and five year old divisions. Susan made the point that the futurities should pay for expenses first and then the prize money comes from there. We need to write down the new rules. Mindi would be willing to write up the rules and chair the committee. Megan will be helping write up the rules. Remember that the George Bishop will be in the Promo. We would like to run an ad in the magazine and remember that this futurity is for Youth and adults
Cheryl brought up the question of Prizes: ribbons pricing is $90 for up to third place. $159 for first place rosettes. Cheryl in charge of the Family rate show prizes- June 2nd The fees for that will be half price show, which benefits everyone.
Hairy horse show- we are getting the North County Arena, we are getting a really good deal for a nice indoor arena. The PA system will be borrowed from Jim Davis, which is what we did last year. List of classes: Showmanship, Western Pleasure, English pleasure, keyhole, musical squares, egg race, flags, barrels, poles, run, ride, lead, single pole, Concessions provided and entry form. $3 per class with a pay out CASH PRIZES. Spread the word to friends and neighbors about this fun show!!
What about adult classes? It was decided that 19 and over classes would include Showmanship, Western Pleasure and English Pleasure and Trail, Reining, Barrels and Poles
Mindi proposes to change bareback to after the English classes for convenience and safety. There was discussion about where to place trail. Some people would like trail to run by itself and then sometimes run it like we have in the past. Be aware that there will be a new class schedule!! Lunch is at the management’s discretion
Tabled the rest of the topics.
We would like to update the Bylaws with the changes that have been made in the last two years. That is the secretary’s job.
Next meeting: April 12th 7pm at Susan Munson’s
Ross will be going to the National Convention next week. He let us know that the National office will pay us $500 to do the gates, hand out awards and set up. We need lots of help from our club so fulfill these tasks-this will help offset the costs of not having a Regional in conjunction with the Classic.
We need jumps! On March 24th Lamar Barrington will help us make jumps. We need a work day there so set your calendars.
